RailsConf 2006 - Getting there

Posted by Marty Haught on Saturday, June 24, 2006
Well, it's been quite a while since I've blogged but it's better late than never. Being so busy with work has proven to suck out any blogging interest that I might have had. Probably should change that. However, I will blog a few times about RailsConf2006 which I'm attending right now.

RailsConf 2006 - Getting there

I arrived with a minor delay into O'Hare from Denver. By the time I arrived at the hotel, it was nearly 8pm. Luckily I got registered and chatted with Chad Folwer and Rich Kilmer, two of the organizers. Chad is a fellow Rubyist from the Boulder-Denver Ruby Group and he directed me to catch the tail end of the ThoughtWorks' sponsored reception for speakers. I did so and enjoyed some lovely hors d'oeuvres and some great networking.

I then turned my attention towards getting online at the Wyndham hotel but that didn't go well. It turns out you need to register for free access. While I knew this and had done so before hand I did not have a copy of the 'key' written down and, no, it was not something you can memorize easily. I ended up trying to register again which I learned later on flat out doesn't work in Firefox due to some javascript error. How lovely... and this is on my Debian laptop. Konqueror did a bit better but the login process failed. It was late and I was tired so that pretty much ended my day on a sour note.

More to come shortly...
