Exit 2008, Enter 2009

As 2008 comes to a close I have several thing in transition, more so than in years past. In November I finished a two year Rails contract and moved on to new projects. With this transition both Active Warehouse and Yui4Rails projects will no longer have my attention. Active Warehouse is in fine hands with Anthony active on it again and others contributing in the last few months. I’m sure the move to Github will help with that as well. I pushed my last tweaks to it at the end of November. Yui4Rails may be in more trouble but it doesn’t need to be. First, the guys at my last contract will need to maintain their use of the plugin and will hopefully help make contributions as they move forward. Second, I hope others will fork my github repo to keep things advancing. I may use YUI again on a Rails project and if I do I’ll be sure to give back whatever I develop there. I’d encourage others using the plugin to do the same.

2009 holds some interesting prospects for me. First, I have decided to start a new private venture. I will be writing a casual, web-based role playing game. I have over 25 years of experience with the genre in both table top and computer-based systems. I still play in several email-based games today and given my programming skills should have considered doing this earlier. Recently, I’ve seen some viable games like this which has prompted me to consider writing my own. I hope to have an official announcement about this game in the near future. Since I’ll be boot-strapping the project it may be a few months or more before it’s playable. Second, I hope my new projects this year will have their own interesting aspects and plan to blog about it.

Anyway, I’m hopeful that 2009 will be an even more successful year than 2008 was for me and my family. Happy New Year!
